...I fail at the internet, you guys.

I keep thinking "man, it's been ages since I've updated LJ"...and then I think "man, I don't have the time to write a lengthy entry right now, I'll wait until the kid's asleep"...and then, when Pie's asleep, I end up sewing or cleaning or wandering through TV Tropes.

Yeah.

I have been reading my flist, and just an FYI - even though I may not comment on entries, I am reading them (I don't filter, except all the Doctor Who-related comms after a new episode so I don't have to wade through 9182646 reaction posts), and I do care about you guys! Really! I'm just bad at, y'know, saying so. :D

In work-related news, I didn't get that job I applied for (which sucks), and my current job is continuing to slowly pare down my department. I'm not so much worried about what how we'd get by if I lost my job (the only bill I pay is the childcare, and we wouldn't be using that if I were home) , but I don't want to get stuck in a job I hate simply because it was all I could get. Thing is, I know exactly what I would like to do for a career - finally - but I need a grad degree, and I worry that I would shell out $15K for that and then not get a job.

In less navel-gazing news, my daughter is currently running in a circle around a pillow on the floor, singing her ABCs, and then falling onto the pillow and laughing hysterically when she reaches the end of the song. Toddlers are WEIRD.

She's also moved her entertainment obsession from "Victory of the Daleks" to "Beauty and the Beast", which means Joe and I sit around and poke fun at all the logical failings of that movie. I love that movie (c'mon, Belle was a brown-haired, brown-eyed, book-loving Disney heroine, my 8-year-old self was overjoyed), but yeah. I mean, there's an entire corridor of enchanted suits of armor - none of whom show up for the mob battle at the end. Maybe it was pub night, idk. *shrug*

In other entertainment news, I've worked my way through:

- The first three Dresden Files books, which are hugely entertaining. Every time I start working up to a eyeroll at cliches (if I never see vampires referred to as "vamps" again, it will be too soon), Dresden says something goddamn hilarious and it makes up for the cliche.

- The first two Thursday Next books. I had to re-read "The Eyre Affair" before really getting into the story - the first time around, I kept being put off by the feeling that there were a lot of jokes I just wasn't getting. Second time around was much more enjoyable, as was the second book.

- The first volume of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel, which didn't impress me much. The premise is amusing, but the art doesn't do anything for me. Also, I kinda want to punch Scott Pilgrim i the face and tell him "You're twenty-three, grow the hell up, get a job, and stop being such a mooching doofus layabout" - all while shaking my cane and telling him to get off my lawn, because I apparently turned 65 at some point.

And...well, that's about it, really. If you want to see the doll geekery, head on over to Dolls and Nachos - there's plenty of crafty doll geekery to be had. Jen out.
